This incredibly short lifespan is both a challenge and a superpower. Because it decays so quickly, it allows doctors to perform back-to-back scans without waiting for radioactivity to clear from the patient’s body. However, it also means the tracer must be created in a particle accelerator (cyclotron) located right next to the scanner.
