Lan understands. The monster isn’t outside. It’s the cycle. Her mother beat her. She nearly beat Binh. If she doesn’t stop, Binh will grow up angry, and the Babadook will live in him too. It stays there
The Babadook feeds on guilt.
Lan sees nothing. But the room is cold—colder than the Saigon night should ever be. And from inside the wall, she hears it: thump. thump. thump. Slow. Deliberate. Like a cane hitting concrete.
