Tormented by guilt, Anand leaves his partnership and decides to start his own program. He selects 30 exceptional students from impoverished backgrounds (slums, villages, and families of daily wage laborers) and houses them in a makeshift hostel on his school premises. He names this initiative "Super 30." The rest of the film follows the intense, year-long journey of Anand and his 30 students as they battle extreme poverty, social discrimination, lack of resources, and the machinations of the rich coaching mafia (led by Lallan Singh) who see Anand as a threat to their business empire.
