For the first time in years, Elias opened a blank document and began to type.

Over the following nights, Elias learned the rules. Parler couldn't search the web or run spreadsheets. It couldn't play music or show videos. All it could do was listen and reply. But its replies were uncanny. If Elias said, “I’m tired,” Parler wouldn’t list sleep hygiene tips. It would say, “Tell me about the dream you had last night.” And Elias, surprised, would find himself telling it.
