Released in 2009 and produced by the Wachowskis (of The Matrix fame), Ninja Assassin is not a subtle film. It doesn’t try to be. It is a love letter to the over-the-top, R-rated ninja films of the 80s, turned up to eleven with modern gore effects and slick choreography.

But before you click play on that sketchy streaming site, let’s talk about why this cult classic is worth your time (and where you can actually watch it legally). The story follows Raizo (played by Korean pop star Rain ), one of the deadliest assassins ever trained by the mysterious Ozunu Clan. Raised in a brutal, emotionless environment, he finally snaps after the clan murders the one person he loved.

Ninja Assassin is not Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon . It is a B-movie with an A-movie budget for the action sequences. If you want to see a man get sliced in half by a giant spinning blade-wheel while Rain does a backflip, press play.
