"You can't shut down a feeling!" Kaelen shouted back, dodging a puddle of singing slime. "It's not a machine! It's a mirror!"
"He didn't respect it," Kaelen said, not looking away. "He tried to cage it. You don't cage a storm. You give it a direction."
He pressed the activation rune. The slime expanded, filling the cylinder with a brilliant, swirling galaxy of violet and indigo. Then it spoke . Not in words, but in raw emotion: Loneliness. Hunger. And a terrifying, infinite need.
