If you are a fan of the Xianxia (immortal hero) genre, you know the drill: beautiful immortals, star-crossed fates, and a love story that spans centuries. But every once in a while, a drama comes along that executes these tropes with just the right amount of heart, angst, and visual flair. For me, that drama is Love of Thousand Years (千古玦尘).
Released in 2021 and starring Zhou Dongyu and Xu Kai, this drama flew a bit under the radar for some Western audiences, but it absolutely deserves a spot on your watchlist. Here is why I am still thinking about this epic tale of sacrifice, identity, and eternal love. The story begins in the ancient realm of the immortals. Shang Gu (Zhou Dongyu) is the mischievous, powerful, and somewhat reckless True God of Chaos. She is destined to protect the Three Realms, but she lacks discipline. Enter Bai Jue (Xu Kai), the cold, stoic, and powerful True God of the Domain. He is tasked with teaching her how to control her powers. love of thousand years
