Popular media has also changed how we watch. Appointment viewing—gathering around the TV for Friends or Game of Thrones —has been replaced by asynchronous consumption. However, the watercooler moment has migrated to X (formerly Twitter) and TikTok. In the end, entertainment content is no longer a product we buy. It is an environment we live in. The challenge for the modern viewer isn't finding something to watch—it's remembering how to watch without a phone in their hand and a scroll bar under their thumb. This creates a new form of literacy
