Karl von Frisch: Pioneer of Ethology and Communicative Biology
Karl von Frisch (1886–1982) was an Austrian ethologist whose groundbreaking research on honey bee communication and sensory perception revolutionized the understanding of animal behavior. He is best known for deciphering the “waggle dance” – a symbolic language used by bees to convey the distance, direction, and quality of food sources. For this work, he was co-awarded the 1973 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, alongside Konrad Lorenz and Nikolaas Tinbergen. karl v frisch
