The Jaat are a large, predominantly agricultural community spread across Northwest India (Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh) and Pakistan (Punjab, Sindh). They are not a monolithic caste in the traditional Hindu varna system but are often classified as Other Backward Class (OBC) in some states and General Category in others. In Sikhism, Jaat Sikhs are a prominent sub-group.
