Codex Pontevedra [2021] Direct

Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor (Pontevedra) → private collection (18th c.) → rediscovered in 1927 by Galician historian Xosé Filgueira Valverde. Currently held at the Museo de Pontevedra (MS 1/1928).

Medieval Galician-Portuguese, with some Latin sections.

Likely produced in a monastic scriptorium in or near Pontevedra, possibly linked to the Convent of San Francisco or the Collegiate Church of Santa María la Mayor. codex pontevedra

Gothic textualis rotunda, two main scribes identified.

One of the earliest surviving codices produced entirely in Galicia outside the cathedral scriptoria of Santiago or Ourense. Offers key evidence for the rise of Galician-Portuguese as a written language in civil and religious contexts. The Portus Apostoli legend prefigures the later maritime cult of the Virxe da Peregrina.
