Abstract: This paper examines the transnational rediscovery of Clément (2001), a French short film or documentary (hypothetical for this study), on the Russian social networking site Ok.ru. While the original work received limited domestic distribution, its unauthorized upload to Ok.ru nearly two decades later generated significant viewership and commentary. Drawing on platform affordances and media archiving theory, this analysis argues that Ok.ru functions as an informal global repository for “orphaned” early-2000s European audiovisual content. The case of Clément (2001) illustrates how non-Western platforms preserve and recontextualize marginal cultural products, challenging traditional models of national media heritage.
