Review Date: April 2026 Product: Canon imageCLASS MF4820d Monochrome Laser Multifunction Printer Focus Area: Driver software, installation experience, OS compatibility, feature access, and troubleshooting canon imageclass mf4820d driver

If you own or are considering the Canon imageCLASS MF4820d, you already know it’s a workhorse: fast printing (up to 30 ppm), automatic duplexing, scan-to-PC, and a reliable 250-sheet cassette. But no printer functions without its driver. After three years of using the MF4820d in a mixed Windows/macOS small office, and having performed over a dozen clean installations, I’ve learned that the driver experience can make or break this device. | Version | Date | Change | |--------|------|--------| | 20

| Feature | Accessible via driver? | Notes | |--------|----------------------|-------| | Print quality (600 dpi / 1200 dpi) | Yes | 1200 dpi requires UFR II driver, not PCL6 | | Toner save mode | Yes | Reduces density – great for drafts | | Page layout (2-in-1, 4-in-1) | Yes | Works well | | Watermark / overlay | Yes | Basic but sufficient | | Scan to PC (via button on printer) | | Requires MF Toolbox running in background | | Scan to email | No | Not a driver feature – need PC-side mail client | | Firmware update | No (separate tool) | Canon’s firmware update utility is separate | | Feature | Accessible via driver

Download the full driver package, not the “UFR II only” version. And on Windows, install the Status Monitor – you’ll thank yourself when toner runs low at 5 PM on a Friday. If you found this review helpful, check your driver version today. If it’s older than 22.05, update – but don’t expect any exciting new features.

Canon is slow to update. The 2024 driver still doesn’t support Mopria or AirPrint properly over Ethernet (the printer works, but driver lacks metadata). 9.
